Yes, you read that right. Head north to Nappanee to the Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres, which this week opened Rodgers & Hammerstein’s award-winning musical State Fair.
The musical follows the Frake family who leave the routine of their Iowa farm to spend three days of fun and frolic at the Iowa State Fair (which of course can’t be as good as the Indiana State Fair).
State Fair is running opposite Amish Acres’ long-running signature showPlain and Fancy.
Before either show, you can indulge in the Wine Tasting Loft or a family-style, Threshers dinner at the Restaurant Barn. The historic farm and heritage resort offers a variety of discount packages that allow you to tour the homestead, enjoy home-cooked food and take in a show or two.
The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres is a full performing arts venue with its own scenic and costume shop, rehearsal space. It employs a full time technical staff including artistic director, stage manager, sound and set designers. State Fair will run now through July 8, 2012.
(For more information about Amish Acres, read this post from my family’s trip there last summer.)
